Flu blues

I have got a terrible cold. That’s why my blog has been neglected for the last few days. I can’t keep my head straight long enough to write something. My nose is stuffed and I can’t seem to keep my eyes open long enough to come up with a theme. Usually these seasonal colds last about three days but this time it seems relentless. And since I don’t believe in taking any more medicines than is absolutely essential, my head seems ripe enough to explode from whatever is building up inside it.

I got caught in the rain on Saturday and I didn’t pay any attention to it. I just kept on doing whatever I was doing at the time in damp clothes. I didn’t think it was a big deal. By the time I got home at night, I was already sneezing away the doors two streets down. I think its another sign of old age creeping in and another reminder that I should really take my health more seriously. Or it could just be the virus lurching around when I was in damp clothes.

Usually my body lets me get away with these mild indiscretions but this time it didn’t. I have a deviated septum and to me, being a non-medical person, it means that I am more prone to catching these colds than the average person. Allergens seem to get stuck in my nose with a better grip and are able to create a bigger mess of things already going wrong inside. Earlier on in life I had seen several doctors and specialists and they all said the same thing. I’m stuck with it for life. So I’ve learned to live with it. Its not a disease, its just something that my body is. It happens. I don’t have the statistics ready on me but I do remember reading that a lot of people have some permanent allergic condition or the other. So looking on the brighter side of things, I am much better off than a lot of other people.

Moving on, I think that this entry may end up being a little smaller than the rest. I usually try for 550 to 600 words. Its not a rule or some netiquette norm, its just a self-imposed figure I came up with when I was starting my blog. Just so I would have a limit on how much I can bore my readers. I’ve read some blogs on the optimum length of entries and they seem to vary a lot. Anywhere from a hundred words to a thousand or even more. Some bloggers say that there should be at least one or more smaller entries a day as opposed to longer entries dispersed throughout the week. Some said the exact opposite. Depends on the bloggers I guess as well as the subject. My figure seemed right to me to sufficiently explain myself in the topics I had planned to write on. I usually try to stick to that and more often than not, I have to chop off material to cut most of my entries down to that size. Some of my fiction entries have gone way beyond that but since fictions isn’t really like a diary, I had let it slide.

Well, I guess I seem to have reached my intended length so I’m going to close off now and go back to sleep. Good night.
